The influence of heat losses from the drying chamber on the performance of the heat pump based wood drying installation was considered. It is proved that the increase in losses leads to an increase of the drying agent recycling rate. It was shown that the influence of the heat loss is ambiguous and depends on its ratio with the magnitude of the compressor shaft, and in cases when the heat loss is less or equal to the power of the heat pump compressor's energy, efficiency of the heat pump dryer increases. Further increase in the heat losses leads to a reduction in efficiency due to the fact that additional heaters need to be installed.
